YBGK Part I and II Training and Special Session on 26.07.2025 | Kuching, Sarawak

Dear Members,

Please be informed that The Advocates Association of Sarawak will be organising YBGK Part I and II Training, the particulars as follows:-

Date: 26 July 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 8.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
Venue: Ultimate Professional Centre Auditorium, Kuching 
Dress Code: Chambers Attire

All seats taken up for this YBGK Training. There will be another YBGK Part I and II Training coming up soon.

SPECIAL SESSION

Mr. Vivek Sukumaran from Bar Council will also be joining us for the session from 2.00 pm onwards on "Dawn Raids & Breach for Legal Privilege by Enforcement Authorities against Lawyers".

In recent years, there has been growing concern among members of the legal profession regarding the increasing number of incidents where enforcement authorities, particularly the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC), have conducted dawn raids on law firms and arrested lawyers. There cases often involve lawyers who had assisted in their clients' legal dealings, such as the sale and purchase of properties.

There have also been reports of lawyers being compelled to disclose privileged and confidential information, effectively undermining the fundamental principle of legal privilege that protects the client-lawyer relationship. These developments have created an atmosphere of uncertainty and anxiety within the legal community and highlight the urgent need for greater clarity and stronger safeguards for the legal profession.

This special session will address these critical issues, including the legal boundaries of enforcement actions, the protection of legal privilege, and practical steps lawyers can take to uphold their professional duties while safeguarding themselves and their clients.
